Waiting Game: GR IV Delays and Daydreams of Cine Green
When I hit the pre-order button for the Ricoh GR IV, I felt like a kid counting down to Christmas. The idea of finally having a true EDC camera — something pocketable, discreet, and always ready — had me checking my inbox every day for that shipping confirmation.
But like many Ricoh fans are finding out… the wait just got longer... here in Australia - a couple of weeks, at least.
The Frustration of Pre-Orders
There’s something uniquely frustrating about a delayed pre-order. You’ve already made the decision, already imagined the camera in your pocket, already thought about the first shots you’ll take. And then reality sets in: it’s going to be a while longer.
I get it — high demand, limited production, and the quirks of camera launches. Still, it stings. Especially when the GR IV feels like such a missing puzzle piece for my daily carry.
Daydreaming of Cine Green
One thing that keeps me excited through the wait is the thought of experimenting with the new Cine Green profile.
Fujifilm shooters know the thrill of film sims like Classic Chrome or Eterna — profiles that instantly shift the mood of a shot. For Ricoh, Cine Green feels like a bold addition. From sample images I’ve seen, it offers a cinematic palette:
- Subdued contrast
- Muted but rich tones
- A filmic atmosphere that feels more “cinema still” than “digital snapshot”
As someone who’s been creating and testing film simulation recipes, Cine Green feels like a new playground. I can already imagine pairing it with the GR IV’s pocketability — grabbing street shots, daily moments, or even quiet family snapshots that look like stills from a movie.
Finding Patience
So for now, I wait. My X-T5 continues to do the heavy lifting, but in the back of my mind I keep picturing that slim Ricoh sliding into my pocket before heading out the door.
Delays aside, I know this is a short-term pain for what might become a long-term companion. When the box finally arrives, I’ll be ready — batteries charged, settings dialed in, and Cine Green at the top of my custom profiles.
Closing Thoughts
The wait is frustrating, yes. But it also heightens the anticipation. Maybe that’s part of the ritual of new gear — the dreaming before the doing.
And when the GR IV finally gets here, I have a feeling the first image I share will be in Cine Green.
